Convenor, bouncer and librarian
A pal of mine recently had the best possible description of what I'm trying to build with the Salmon Crew. And, therefore, my role within it all.
“You're the convenor, the bouncer and the librarian.”
Indeed. I increasingly see myself as being in the 'holding space for others' business, which then leads to certain positioning decisions but also certain product development decisions. And this triple role suits that like a glove.
I help others convene by running a private community. I am quite militant about ensuring we balance critical thinking with good vibes, which means I have zero problems kicking out the assholes (days since incident: 492). And I feel in control as I grow and manage our private strategy swipe file.
But the danger with communities is, as you get more successful, you also need to play a bigger curatorial role. Stuff falls in the cracks, and the FOMO starts kicking in. It's inevitable. But it can also be manageable.
So, I decided to try something new. A curated preview of the good stuff we're doing for, and with, Salmon Crew members. It's a monthly digest of all the wonderful things I've seen discussed or shared in the group, plus any new additions to the swipe file. All wrapped in a simple presentation.
Moving forward, I want to do this at the start of each new month, covering the month that has passed. But with holidays and all the rest, I only got to this one now. The next one will come on the first week of August, or thereabouts. But for now, enjoy this inaugural digest I prepared for you.
